I lucked out and caught warning signs that my harddrive was on the way out, thanks to my brother who had the same issues (and harddrive model) and put them off for too long until his died and he lost years of data.  Backed everything up, he installed it for me and now I spend tonight and tomorrow reinstalling EVARTHANG.  So bear with me, I'm off by a day or two now, lol.  PLanning some sort of October-long horror stuff for Halloween.  Cuz I loves me some Halloween.

Care to share some of the symptoms for others so they'll be mindful?

And backups are VERY important. I have an external that I use for backups, but it's only 500GB. I need to snatch a 3TB external to really back up my entire inventory, so I'll be looking for one as soon as I get some cash.

It was a heavy delay in saving anything.  I save tons of stuff for reference material and once I'd click "save" it would hang for a bit before saving and if it was saved to my desktop where I could see a thumbnail I'd have to F5 refresh it to have the file actually show up there.  My brother told me he had the same thing on his computer recently, but he ignored it and eventually it died and he lost everything he had on it.  When I told him what problem I was having, thinking I'd need to reformat he told me it was probably dying.  We both had the same harddrive model, too.

Ahhh, I see. I had a HDD fail once before quite a few years back. It would make a constant clicking sound when it would try to read the drive as though some internal gears were failing. I think maybe even when I tried to save.

When trying to preserve a HDD, it's always good to know the signs of stress and wear-and-tear. Thanks for sharing! ^_^

Not a problem! :D  Yeah, that clicking has to do with the Read Heads, they are going bye-bye at that point.
